Jorge Rodríguez was reelected during inaugural session of the Parliament

This Monday, during the inauguration of the 2026-2031 legislative period, the plenary of the National Assembly appointed its new board of directors. Deputy Jorge Rodríguez Gómez, nominated by the Bloque de la Patria (Homeland Bloc), was elected by an evident majority as president of the parliament.

For the First Vice Presidency was elected Deputy Pedro Infante, while the Second Vice Presidency was asigned to Deputy Grecia Colmenares. Both positions were also filled by representatives of the Bloque de la Patria, confirming the parliamentary majority of this bench.

The election took place after the presentation of candidates by the different political forces. Nicolás Maduro Guerra nominated the candidates from the Bloque de la Patria, while parliamentarian Timoteo Zambrano, representing the Democratic Opposition, nominated Rubén Limas for the presidency.

The opposition also proposed José Brito for first vice president, and Alfonso Campos for second vice president. However, in the votings held for each post, the candidates of the Bloque de la Patria obtained clear majorities in all cases.

With this election, the National Assembly begins its new constitutional term with a clearly defined leadership. The installation of the board of directors marks the beginning of the legislative agenda for the next five years in Venezuela.
